Squire, George Ellsworth (7 June 1870 - 17 July
1952)
George Ellsworth Squire, 82, died at the
Neillsville Hospital on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., following an
illness of four years. The body lay in state at the Georgas
Funeral Home until noon on Monday, when it was taken to the
Methodist church in Humbird for services. The Rev. Walter
Jenswold of the Methodist Church of Westby officiated.
Interment was made in the Mentor Cemetery at
Humbird.
Mr.
Squire was born June 7, 1870, at Black River Falls to Nathaniel and
Emeline (Hubbard) Squire. He worked at farming most of his
life, but was also employed in lumber camps and on the
railroad. He retired from active work in 1935 due to ill
health. He was a member of the Humbird Methodist
Church.
On
December 3, 1897, he was married to Nina Hall of Minneapolis at
Humbird. Mrs. Squire died in 1925 and on April 23, 1935, he
was married to Florence Larabee at Kenosha.
He
is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs.
Thomas (Evelyn) Perry, Eveleth, Minn.; Mrs. Fred (Nellie) Rupnow of
Humbird; Mrs. Evan (Alice) Walters, Milwaukee; Mrs. Walter (Mabel)
Aumann, Neillsville; Mrs. George (Margaret) Lubke, Neillsville;
Raymond Squire, Vesper; Mrs. Raymond (Nina) Schlinsog, Granton; and
two step-children, Mrs. Ed (Hattie) Mart and Arthur Smith of
Kenosha; 130 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 16
great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.
One
son and one daughter died in infancy and one son, George, died in
1950. Two sisters, Miss Mary Squire and Mrs. Alice Flood of
Humbird, are also deceased.
Harold Losey sang two selections accompanied by
Mrs. Walter Smith.
Pallbearers were: Archie Fradenburg, Archie
Sparks, Ervin Kelsh, Bert Fradenburg, Mahlon Lund and Charles
Hart. Floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Elenore
Burchell and Mrs. Eula Briggs.
Persons from out of town included Mr. and Mrs. Evan Walter, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Meitner, Pittsville; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schlinsog and family, Mrs. E. Schlinsog, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Aumann, Mary Aumann, Mrs. Robert Prochazka and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of Neillsville.
