Gust J.
Hintz, a pioneer of this community, died at St. Joseph’s
hospital, Marshfield, Sunday, March 4, of a kidney ailment and
complications of age. Mr. Hintz had been making his home at the
Havenet Nursing home at Owen after the death of his wife in
January.
The Rev.
Richard Harrison, of the Presbyterian church, conducted services at
2:00 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, at the Zink Funeral Home
where the body had been lying in state. Burial was made in the
Abbotsford cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Bernitt, Walter Lueth,
Fred Ridderbusch, Harold Christensen, Chet Knight and Roland
Gasch.
Gust J.
Hintz was born Sept. 10, 1872 in Manitowoc county. In 1890, he
worked in a logging camp, owned by Henry Jacobi, located at
Abbotsford. Later he worked at Floodwood, Mich., and then at
Sublette, Ill. In 1898, he bought a steam threshing rig and later
added a saw mill which he operated in Manitowoc county. In 1923, he
moved the machinery to Abbotsford and added a planing
mill.
He retired
from this business in 1952 and last year he sold the last piece of
the equipment.
On Feb. 27,
1897, he and Miss Ida Dassler, town of Centerville, were united in
marriage. She preceded him in death Jan. 26, 1956.
Surviving
him are a son, Herbert H. Hintz, of Sheboygan; Mrs. Oscar (Clara)
Nelson and Mrs. William (Lenore) Neal, both of Los Angeles,
California. There are also three grand children and two great grand
children.
A daughter
died in infancy and two brothers preceded him in death.
Among those attending the funeral were the two daughters from California; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hintz, of Sheboygan; and other relatives from Manitowoc, Milwaukee, and Sheboygan.
