Maki, Matt (18 JAN 1888 - 20 NOV 1954)
Matt Maki, a retired farmer and resident of the Town of Hixon (Clark Co., Wis.) for many years died while deer hunting late Saturday afternoon.
Maki, 66 years of age, was hunting with his son-in-law in the Perkinstown area when he suffered a heart attack. The two had been together visiting at 2 p.m. They then split with Mr. Maki taking a post and his son-in-law walking on to another spot. About an hour later Maki’s body was found by Harry Hansen, of Withee, who was hunting in the territory with a different hunting party.
Deputy coroner Frank Perkins of Taylor County and Don Underwood. Taylor County traffic officer, investigated the accident and then aided Owen firemen in removing the body from the woods.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, Nov. 25, from the Bethany Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be William and Charles Kangas, Art Karow, Lawrence Munson, John Kujala and Kuano Niemi.
Thus far this season five hunters have lost their lives through gunshot, two others asphyxiated and four other died from heart attacks.
