Schilling Station

Showers of rain are quite frequent of late. If they continue the potato crop will be in danger. During the rain of Sept. 2, the lightning played havoc with Peter Christopherson's barbed wire fence. It struck about twenty rods from the corner of it and ruined 2 or 3 fence posts, then it followed the fence around the corner and up to the gate by the house, splitting the gate post and going into the ground.

S. R. Kelley is bent over with a lame back, the result of over lifting. We don't think it pays to strain the muscles too much just for the sake of being the champion heavy weight lifter. Do you S. R.?       

John Larson has found the bee tree after a long search, it being a very hard one to find.

Thomas Vine is trying to do his farm work alone this fall. We think it will keep his guessing to get it done.

Ed Vine is stumping a piece of sod ground to be sown with winter wheat. He thinks he can raise his own bread.

A party of neighbors gathered at the home of Mrs. Geo. Harlow last Thursday giving her a surprise, it being her birthday. Numerous presents were received a list of which is given. Josie Johnson, 25 cts;  Chas. Steenberg and wife, set of cups and saucers; Ed. Vine and daughter, fruit dish; Mrs. Harry Larson, cup and saucer and toothpick holder; Francis Vine, cracker dish; G. Phillips and wife, vinegar cruse and butter dish; Mrs. F. Harlow and Mrs. Ed. Vine, one-half doz. glass plates and pickle dish. Supper was served, and after wishing her many more birthdays the guests went their way rejoicing.
