Young, Ed  (27 DEC 1888-24 JULY 1946)

 

Ed Young, 57, who passed away at his home in the town of Sherman last Wednesday morning, was born on Dec. 27, 1888. He was the son of August and Augusta Young, who resided at their farm home 2 ½ miles east of Loyal on highway 98. He lived with his parents there until he grew to manhood.

 

He was a veteran of World War l, having served his country 16 months, 14 of which were spent overseas. On Oct. 13, 1920, he was married to Eva Alvina Cammers of Loyal. Shortly after their marriage they moved to their home at Spokeville, where they have lived since that time.

 

Surviving him are his wife, Eva; one brother, Paul of Loyal; and three sisters, Mrs. Otto (Tillie) Lemke of Loyal, Mrs. Louis (Rose) Vogt of Sumner, Ia., and Mrs. Roy (Gretchen) Mengel of Baker, Mont. Also surviving are two half-brothers and two half-sisters, Fren Haupt of Loyal, William Haupt of Valley City, N. D., Mrs. Gustave (Ella) Timm of Sumner, Ia., and Mrs. Albert (Bertha) Krueger of Columbus. His father and mother and two brothers preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were held from the Loyal funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and from the Loyal Methodist church at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. S. A. Gutknecht of the Chili Evangelical church in charge of the service. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Edd Dobbe, Carl Gerdes, Claude Catlin, Frank Stange, Julius Schroeder and Jesse Raab. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Claude Catlin, Mrs. Edd Dobbe, Mrs. Frank Stange Sr., Mrs. Julius Schroeder, Mrs. Carl Gerdes and Mrs. Bob Wehling.

 

Military services were conducted, with color bearers and armed escort furnished by the Loyal American Legion post. Howard Sturtz Jr. blew taps.

 

At the service Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior, accompanied by Miss Alice Fensome, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Under His Wings.

 

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Rose Vogt and Mrs. Ella Timm of Sumner, Ia.; William Haupt of Valley City, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. William Harry of Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Hintz and Emil Hintz of Marshfield.

 

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a beloved relative.
