Maynard M. Nelson, 70, of Humbird died Sunday Oct. 11, at his home.

 
Maynard was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Garden Valley Township, Jackson County, to parents Obert and Olga (Nelson) Nelson.  He graduated from Alma Center Lincoln High School and served in the U. S. Army.

 
He was employed at Nelson Industries in Black River Falls for 19 years.  Prior to that, he worked at Ashley Industries in Arcadia for 15 years.  He also worked for the Mentor Township doing plowing and snow removal.

 

Maynard served on the Humbird Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years.  He was a member of the Merrillan Masonic Lodge, the Humbird American Legion and the Trempealeau County American Legion Voiture 260 of the 40 et 8.

 
In his spare time, Maynard enjoyed working with his HO-gauge model railroad trains.

 

Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth and Odell Nelson, both of Humbird; besides other relatives and friends.

 
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Hensel; and a still born brother.

 

Funeral services for Maynard M. Nelson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Oct. 16, 2009, at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, rural Hixton, with Pastor David Christianson officiating.  Burial will take place in Upper Pigeon Creek Church Cemetery with Military rites by the Northfield American Legion Post #541 and the Humbird American Legion Post #320.

 

Friends may call at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services.

 
The Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton is assisting the family with arrangements.
