Bogumill, Virginia R. (26 DEC 1953)
Christmas decorations at the SS Peter and Paul Church at Gilman formed the setting for the wedding on Dec. 26, 1953 of Miss Virginia Ruth Bogumill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bogumill of Hannibal to Charles Anthony Mesiar, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mesiar of Gilman.
Father John Dzurka read the double ring ceremony at 2 p.m. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, wore a floor length gown of Chantilly lace fashioned with Queen Anne collar. The skirt had an inset panel of nylon pleats. Her fingertip veil was held by a cap formed of velvet leaves scattered with seed pearls. She carried a white prayer book encased in lace with an orchid and Joanna Hill roses. She wore a single string of pearls and drop earrings, a gift of the groom.
Maid of honor was Anita Louis Bogumill, sister of the bride, and bridesmaid was Sophie Mesiar, sister of the groom. They wore gowns of coral nylon net and Chantilly type lace with boleros of lace. The full tiered skirts were nylon net over taffeta. Their half hats were coral net with tiny seed pears. They carried star shaped bouquets of white carnations and talisman roses set in coral net and ribbons. Both wore rhinestone bracelets and earrings, a gift of the bride.
The bridegroom’s attendants were Peter Dondlinger of Waukegan, Ill, and Carl Fish, also of Waukegan. Usher was John Horvath of Gilman.
The bride’s mother attended the ceremony in a maroon colored suit with black accessories, while the mother of the bridegroom wore a dark blue dress with white trim. They wore identical corsages of white baby mums.
The reception was held at the Koolmo Club at Gilman. The beautifully decorated wedding cake was made by Mrs. Charles Powers of Gilman and was a gift to the bride and groom.
After the reception the couple left on a trip to northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. They will make their home at Waukegan, Ill., where the groom is employed at John’s Manville Corp. as a punch press operator. He recently returned from Korean services.
Foer her going away costume the bride chose a dawn grey suit with white rhinestone trim. She wore an orchid corsage and a hat of winter white.
The bride graduated from Thorp High School and has been employed as secretary at Veterans’ Administration Hospital at Wood, Wis.
150 guests attended the festivities from Thorp, Gilman, Hannibal, Colby, Waukegan, Milwaukee, Stanley, Curtiss, Donald, Jump River, Sheldon, Bloomer and Minneapolis.
