Mielke, Jeanne E. (Kohl) Viergutz (September 4, 1918 - October 15, 2009)
Jeanne E. Mielke, formerly of Colby, died Thursday, October 15,
2009 at Heritage Court in Menomonee Falls.
She
was born Sept. 4, 1918, in the town of Lincoln, to William and
Marie Kohl.
She
received her education in the Marshfield Public Schools and
graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching and
library science from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point.
She
taught school for a number of years and after retirement,
volunteered in the classroom with gifted and special needs
children. She loved working with young people, especially in 4-H,
and was active in her church and community. Jeanne loved flower
gardening and traveling.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Rose Marie
(Robert) Denzin of Jonesboro, Ga., Janet (Steve) Eggert of St.
Peters, Mo., Susan (Robert) Gebel of Milwaukee, William (Daphne)
Viergutz of Burlington, Colo., and Ruth (Dan) Hawk of Knoxville,
Tenn.; stepchildren, Richard Mielke and Dan (Michelle) Mielke of
Colby. Jeanne has 13 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Viergutz and Hugo Mielke; her parents, and three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be held on Friday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. at
Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00
a.m. at the church. A lunch will follow the service at the church
with burial at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.
Memorials may be sent to Camp Luther, Three Lakes, Wis. and the
Alzheimer’s Society.
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.
