Riese, Leonard August (August 21, 1923 - October 14, 2009)
Leonard August Riese, 86, Colby died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at
the Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford under the
tender care of the Ministry Home Care Hospice.
Leonard was born August 21, 1923 in Brodhead, the son of Herman and
Sophie (Bushe) Riese.
He
attended school in Brodhead, Janesville and March Rapids graduating
from Unity High School.
He served his country in WWII by entering the Army on June 23, 1945 in which he received the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1946.
Leonard worked as a machinist in Milwaukee and Rockford later
returned to the area and became foreman of the machine shop at
Felker Bros. in Marshfield.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the American legion Post 0358 of Unity. Leonard was a dedicated Christian, husband and father and to those that knew him he was a lovable man with a great sense of humor. He was an avid sportsman and loved his hunting and fishing, playing cards with family and friends, or simply sharing his "sweets" with those he loved.
Leonard is survived by Laura, his loving wife of 55 years; his
children, Beth Langteau of Marshfield, Linda (David) Ploeckelman of
Colby, Arnold (Sharon) Riese of Unity, Christine (Michael) Kops of
Colby, and Amy (LeRoy) Underwood of Unity; further survived by 19
grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; and one brother Charles
Reise of Spencer; along with other nieces, nephews, other relatives
and many friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Pearl
Beightol.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on
Monday, October 19, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Colby. The Rev. Keith Apfelbeck will preside. Burial will follow in
St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby with
military rites being conducted there. Visitation will be from
4-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Maurina-Schilling
Funeral in Abbotsford. A parish rosary service will be held at 6:30
p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home in Abbotsford. No visitation
will be held on Monday at the church in Colby. Leonard’s five
grandsons and one nephew will serve as his pallbearers.
