Gronek, Sophie (Marriage - 29 June 1957)

Miss Sophie Gronek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gronek, of Curtiss, Route 1, and Eddie Filipek, son of Mrs. Catherine Price, of Chicago, were united in marriage at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church, Chicago, Saturday, June 29. The Rev. Father Weber officiated at the 10:00 o’clock service and the mass, during which hymns were sung.

The bride, escorted by her father, came down the aisle under flower arches. Silk illusion fashioned her gown and her veil. The gown was designed with a chapel train and bustle back. Sequins outlined the Sabrina neckline and were combined with pearls in the Juliet cap which held her veil. Small streamers cascaded from her bouquet of white orchids and roses. At the close of the ceremony, the bride placed a bouquet of white carnations on the altar of the Blessed Virgin.

The bride’s sister, Mrs. Helen Polak, was matron of honor. Her strapless gown was of blue nylon chiffon with matching sweetheart headpiece. The blue of the gown was carried out in the blue, satin ribbon that tied her bouquet of yellow roses. Miss Marlene Ciolkosz, cousin of the bride, of Chicago; Miss Frances Smigla, friend of the bride, of Chicago, and Mrs. Loretta Burzynski, a sister of the groom, were bridesmaids. They were dressed identically to the matron of honor.

Miss Frances Gronek, grand child and niece of the bride, and Miss Bonnie Flynn, niece of the groom, both of Chicago, were flower girls. They wore blue chiffon frocks and carried baskets of yellow roses. Their headpieces were like those of the bridesmaids.

All of the bridal attendants wore opalite necklaces, gifts of the bride.

The miniature bridal couple were Gail and Gary Burzynski, of Chicago. A white dress, similar to the bride’s, a veil and bouquet of flowers were chosen for the little girl. Her gift from the bride was a gold cross.

Bernard Sawicki, friend of the groom, was best man. Edward Gronek, brother of the bride, Stanley Doblin, friend of the groom, and Harry Burzynski, brother-in-law of the groom, completed the wedding party.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Gronek wore a pink rayon crepe dress and the groom’s mother selected a pink and white brocaded shantung dress. They wore orchid corsages.

A 12:00 o’clock breakfast was served .....missing content.
