Olson, Fred
(17 Feb. 1882 - 30 Nov. 1957)
Fred Olson,
75, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where
he was a patient since October 21. Funeral services were held
Tuesday at Zion Lutheran church, Colby, and burial was made in the
Colby cemetery.
Mr. Olson
was born in Curtiss Feb. 17, 1882, and was educated in Colby. He
married Sarah Tuttle June 29, 1904, at Colby.
Mr. Olson
was employed by the Wisconsin Central Railroad until 1914 when he
moved to Cherokee to purchase a saw mill which he operated for many
years. He also farmed and operated threshing machines in the area
and was part owner of the Cherokee Garage and Machinery Sales
firm.
During his
life he served his community and Marathon county in various
capacities. He was school clerk and chairman of the town of Hull, a
member of the school committee, draft board and park board of
Marathon county.
Besides his widow, he is survived by seven children, Mrs. Harold (Winnifred) Striebe, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Herman (Grace) Feldbruegge, Waunakee; Mrs. Norbert (Elva) Ven Rooy and Byron, Colby; Mrs. Ben (Edith) Reil, Oshkosh; Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Totzky, Stratford; and Lawrence, Chippewa Falls; one brother, Oluf Olson, Neillsville; 28 grand children and 31 great grand children. One son, Elroy, preceded him in death.
