Fischer, Virginia Violet (6 Dec. 1942 - 30 Sept. 2009) 
 

RHINELANDER -- Virginia Violet Fischer, 66, of Rhinelander, formerly of Loyal, died Sept. 30, 2009, at her home surrounded by loved ones and in the care of Ministry Hospice. 
 

She was born Dec. 6, 1942, in Marshfield, the daughter of Albert O. and Isabell (DuVall) Perner. Following high school at Columbus Catholic High School in Marshfield, Virginia continued her education at Marquette University, UW-Stevens Point and UW-La Crosse. Virginia was married to Donald L. Fischer on July 16, 1966, in Marshfield and then joined him in farming near Loyal. 
 

She taught science at John Muir Junior High in Wausau, Colby High School, and later taught the sixth grade at St. Anthony's Catholic School in Loyal. She was also a health educator for the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation until her retirement in 2007. She was also clerk for the town of Beaver for 32 years. 
 

She actively supported 4-H programs both locally and for Clark County, including being a key member of 4-H summer camp and county fair project leader for many years. Along with her husband, she was named the 1993 Wisconsin Master Shepherd. She was active in the PCCW at St. Anthony's Catholic Parish in Loyal, and the Women's and Life Goes On groups at Nativity of Our Lord parish in Rhinelander. Her love of nature, science, teaching and her generosity touched countless people throughout her lifetime. 
 

Virginia is survived by her three children, Steven (Beth) Fischer of Dresser, Carrie (Tony) Fischer-Martinez of Marshfield, Vt., and Amy (Kevin) Fischer-Brown of St. Joseph, Ill., two grandchildren, Josephine and Elizabeth Martinez; two stepgrandchildren, Georgia and Manny Beaver; her siblings, Gerald (Marge) Perner of Lake Tomahawk, James (Ann) Perner of Eau Claire and Jerome (Kristie) Perner of Boise, Idaho; as well as much extended family, close friends, and former students. 
 

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Fischer; a brother, Albert (Millie) Perner Jr.; and a nephew, Luke Perner. 
 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church-St. Mary's Site, with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:15 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church Saturday morning. 
 

Interment will be Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Beaver Cemetery near Loyal.
