CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. -- Ilma L. (Hoehne) Braatz,
100, of Crystal Lake, Ill., died Oct. 22, 2009, at her home in
Crystal Lake.
She was born March 5, 1909, in Greenwood, to Carl
and Emma (Runkel) Hoehne. Mrs. Braatz enjoyed a lifelong career as
a registered nurse. During her career, she established and ran a
maternity home for expectant mothers and also established and ran a
1940s-style assisted living facility, both in Greenwood. In the
1950s, she worked at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. After
moving to Milwaukee in 1959, she worked at Milwaukee County
Hospital. She completed her nursing career as a public health
nurse, working for the city of Milwaukee until her retirement in
1972.
Her survivors include her children, Bill (Karen)
Enockson of Barrington, Ill., Joe (Beverly) Enockson of Palatine,
Ill., and Alice Braatz (the late Floyd) Gustafson of Crystal Lake,
Ill.; stepdaughter, Virginia Braatz (Ronald) Jacobson of Crystal
Lake, Ill.; eight grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Linn S. Enockson; and her second husband, Leonard R. Braatz, in
1983.
Burial will be at a later date in Lyons Cemetery
in Burlington.
Arrangements were made by Davenport Family Funeral Home.
