Decker, Hollis L. (16 DEC 1888 - 23 MAY 1954)
Hollis L. Decker was born on Dec. 16, 1888, in the Town of warren, Waushara County, Wis. He passed away on Sunday morning, May 23rd, 1954 at 4:00 a.m. at his home here of Hodgkin’s disease, from which he had been a sufferer for the past two years. He had reached the age of 65 years, 5 months and 7 days.
His early days were spent in his home town of Red Granite, Wis., where at the age of 21 years he was united in marriage to Miss Florence Terrill, also of that city. To this happy union four children were born. One daughter, Ethelyn, died in infancy.
He came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1921 and became part owner in the Thorp Auto Sales Garage, later taking the agency for Chevrolet cars for himself and dealing in used cars. For the past two years he had been unable to work steady in his fight against the disease from which he suffered.
He was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father, and to his friends, the soul of fellowship.
The funeral services were held at the Thorp Funeral Home at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, May 26th, Rev. Cecil Ward, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating, and paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. The music rendered was such as to soften all hearts and moisten all eyes. At the close of the services an unusually long procession followed the funeral car to his last resting place in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Dallas, Bernard Rusch, Frank Stewart, Walter Bohn, William Parks and Cecil Powell.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Arlyn of Curtiss, Chester of Owen, and Darrell at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Tice of Los Angles, Calif., and Gladys, Mrs. Eugene Morrison of Red Granite, and William of Red Granite, Wis.; and nine grandchildren.
