The Bergen Smiths have received a letter from Major Dalton Newfield, commanding the Yokohama signal depot, telling that their son, Herbert was among the top 10 at the station in the "Soldier of the Month" competition. To reach this position he had to pass one official rating after another. Major Newfield concludes: "Judging by his rating and the report of he selection board, I would state that he has an excellent chance to be named ‘Soldier of the Month’ in the future.
