Shilts, Manford (18 APR 1891 - 10 JUL 1954)
Manford Shilts, 73, was gored to death by a bull on his farm in the Town of Wilson about 10 a.m. Saturday.
A bachelor farmer of CTH G near the Pleasant View Store, he was found dead just outside his barn. His chest had been crushed and he had been gored in his left leg by the bull, which was found a few yards away with the lead rope wound around a tree.
Dr. George W. Beebe, deputy county coroner of Eau Claire County said, "It was hard to tell just what happened, because there were no witnesses present at the time of the mishap but the man had been dead about five or six hours before he arrived."
Mr. Shilts is survived by two brothers, Edward of route 2, Boyd, and Ernest of route 1, Stanley, and one sister, Mrs. Arthur Mohr of Bloomer.
The deceased was born in the Town of Edson (Chippewa Co.) on April 18, 1891, and he had been a farmer and beekeeper all his life.
