Wendt, John Fred (24 April 1878 - 18 March
1953)
John Fred Wendt, 74, of Owen, died March 18 at
his home in the Town of Longwood. His death was attributed to
a heart ailment. Mr. and Mrs. Wendt returned home Sunday,
March 15, from Danville, Ky., where they had been visiting with
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph
Gander.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Zion
Church. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery.
Pallbearers were all nephews, George, Charles, Raymond, Cecil and
Harold Wendt and Bernard Colby.
Mr.
Wendt was born April 24, 1878, in Allegan, Mich. At the age
of six he came to Thorp with his parents. His marriage to
Clara Noah took place April 28, 1909, at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah in Greenwood. They settled on their
present farm in the Town of Longwood.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Adolph and Edgar of Owen; three daughters, Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gander of Danville, Ky., Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson of Madison, and Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson of Greenwood; 21 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. William Courter of Withee; and three brothers, William of Owen, August of Denver, Colo., and Fred of La Grande, Ore.
