Benjamin Franklin Thompson, born at Greenfield, Maine, on Oct. 15, 1840, died March 11^th, 1911 at Mesa City, Arizona, in his 71^st year. 
 

His parents were Arnold and Sophronia Thompson, also both born in Maine.  Was married to Jane Thompson in the year 1859 and emigrated with his parents to La Crosse, Wis., in the year 1861, where he lived until the year 1871, when he moved with his wife to Greenwood, Wis., at which place he has since resided.  
 

Two children were born to them—a son and daughter—but both died in infancy and are buried in the La Crosse Cemetery.  His wife died in 1903 and she was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery where his parents are also buried. 
 

His business in the state of Maine was lumbering and farming and this was his principal business after coming to Wisconsin.  He hadn’t much chance for an academic education, having gone to work in the pinery when only 9 years old and being so employed every year until 1885, when he practically retired from active business life.  He was manly and unobtrusive and was honored by his fellow townsmen on three separate occasions with the office of mayor in his adopted city.  His death was untimely as he enjoyed life and had abundant means with which to do so. 
 

His remains reached Greenwood on the morning of the 18^th inst. and funeral was held at the Woodman hall on the 19^th.  His funeral was attended by a large concourse.
