Afkend, Mr. and Mrs. Martin (Golden - 8 April
1953)
Mr.
and Mrs. Martin Afkend were honored by the celebration of their
fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception attended by
approximately 60 relatives and friends at their home in Greenwood
on Sunday. Hostesses were their two daughters, Mrs. May
Little and Mrs. Louis (Ruby) Edwards, and a friend Mrs. Leo
Olson.
Martin Afkend, son of Ole and Helena Afkend, was
born near Cobb, Wis., and his wife, the former Helen Johnson,
daughter of Isaac and Ida Johnson, was born near Richland
Center. They were married April 8, 1903. They moved to
Greenwood in 1918 and have resided in this vicinity ever
since.
They have three children - Mrs. May Little of Eau
Claire, Mrs. Louis (Ruby) Edwards of Loyal, and one son Donald, who
resides in Neillsville and is employed in Waukegan. There are eight
grandchildren, three of them in the U. S. service.
Those present from away were Mrs. May Little and
son Kenneth of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Edwards and daughter
Shirley of Loyal; Mrs. Harold Hanson and daughter Alice of Mt.
Horeb; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fritch of Cobb; Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rose,
son Bobby and daughter Betty, of Mauston; Mr. and Mrs. Barney Mick
of Richland Center; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Sharnon and daughter Sharon
of Cazenovia; Mrs. Tress Cupps of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Afkend of Abbotsford; Mrs. Lulu Edwards of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Will
Haas of Withee.
The honored couple received various gifts, a purse of money and many messages.
