Da
Mert, Marjorie Joan (Marriage - 23 May 1953)
Miss Marjorie Joan Da Mert, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Da Mert of Neillsville, and Arthur Lau, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Julius Lau of Stratford, were married Saturday, May 23, at
2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Neillsville with
the Rev. Alfred Schewe performing the double ring ceremony.
The church was decorated with white gladioli, ferns and
candles.
The
bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a dress that
featured a bodice of Chantilly lace with long sleeves that came to
a point over her wrists with a double net skirt over white
taffeta. A Juliet lace cap trimmed in white pearls and a
fingertip veil completed her gown.
Miss Audrey Da Mert acted as her sister’s
maid of honor and wore a yellow dress. Miss Phyllis Gust,
Stratford, and Mrs. Bruce Knoble were her bridesmaids and were
dressed in orchid and green respectively. Rhinestone
necklaces and earrings were gifts of the bride to her
attendants.
Forest Moss of Stratford, the groom’s
nephew, was his best man. Leonard Da Mert, Footville and
Bruce Knoble, Marshfield, were groomsmen. The ushers were
David Da Mert, Neillsville, and Robert Lau,
Milwaukee.
The
organist was Victor Lehman, with Wilfred Galstad
singing.
The
reception for approximately 175 persons was held at the American
Legion Hall in Neillsville.
The
young couple left on a wedding trip to the Black Hills and other
points in the West and will be at home after June 1 on the farm of
the groom at Stratford.
The
bride received her education in the Neillsville schools and for the
past three years has been employed as bookkeeper for United Shoe
Co. of Marshfield. The groom was graduated from the Stratford
High School and has spent his entire life
farming.
Guests at the wedding were from Marshfield,
Arpin, Wisconsin Rapids, Merrill, Chicago, Milwaukee, Stratford,
Portage, Kaukauna, Colby and Janesville.
