Horel, Bert (28 June 1867 - 18 June 1954) 
 

Bert Horel, age 87 years, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.  He was born on the old Horel Homestead in the Town of Mentor on June 28, 1867, and died June 18, 1954. 
 

In 1896 he moved with his family to Dillon, Colo., where he lived for 10 years.  In 1890 he was united in marriage to Mary Holman of Fairchild.  They had one daughter, Mrs. Theo Matti, Humbird.  He had three grandchildren - Ralph Finnegan of Merrill and Mrs. Velma Enerson of Alma Center, and Robert Finnegan who preceded him in death.  He leaves six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 
 

After Mrs. Horel’s death he moved to California where he worked in the gold mines for over 10 years.  Then he returned here where he was engaged in farming.  Then he moved to Colorado to make his home. 
 

Services were held June 23 at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Wm. Dopp officiating and burial was made in the Mentor Cemetery.  Mrs. Walter Smith and Mrs. Wm. Theiler sang with Mrs. Harold Losey at the piano. 
 

The Masonic Lodge of Humbird gave the Masonic services at the grave, Pastor Sam Newton officiating.  Several Masons from Merrillan and Humbird (missing portion.  Dmk)
