George
Papenfuss, 78, died at his home Monday morning following a stroke.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at
Hoeper-Kraut Funeral Home, Owen, with the Rev. Charles A. Koch,
Greenwood, officiating. Burial was made at Pine Hill cemetery,
Curtiss.
George
Papenfuss was born in Germany, July 22, 1879, and when a small boy,
he came to America with his parents and settled in Colby. Mr.
Papenfuss and Lena Marks were married at Colby on June 29, 1904. He
spent most of his life in the Abbotsford-Colby area and was a
carpenter by trade.
Surviving
him are his widow, Abbotsford; two sons, Henry, Chicago; and
Harold, Brookfield, Wis.; and two daughters, Mrs. Sievert (Leona)
Sjoblom, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mrs. Herman (Irene) Krause,
Greenwood. There are five grand children.

Funeral
services for George Papenfuss, 78, who died Jan. 6 in a Wausau
hospital, following a stroke, were held Thursday afternoon at the
Hoeper-Kraut Funeral Home, Owen. The Rev. Charles Koch, of
Greenwood, officiated and burial was made in Pine Hill cemetery,
Curtiss.
Pallbearers
were Harold Christensen, William Colby, Solomon Krause, John
Mueller, Harry Olson and Frank Provinski.
George
Papenfuss, who was born in Germany, came to this country with his
parents when he was two and one-half years old and lived on a farm
in the town of Colby. He spent most of his life in this locality
with the exception of three years which he spent in New York City.
He was a carpenter by trade and lived in Abbotsford the past 39
years.
On June 29, 1904, he was united in marriage at Colby, to Lena Marks, who survives him. Also surviving are four children, all of whom were here for the funeral. The children are Henry, Chicago; Mrs. Sievert (Leona) Sjoblom, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Herman (Irene) Krause, Greenwood; and Harold, Brookfield, Ill. There are five grand children.
