Ray Willis
Hugoboom, 79, died at Hudson, Florida, Thursday, following a stroke
suffered a month ago. Funeral services were held at Dorchester
Monday at the United Brethren church with the Rev. Harold Welch
officiating. Burial was made in the Dorchester
cemetery.
Born July
12, 1872, Mr. Hugoboom was one of the first white children born in
this section of the state. He was educated in the Dorchester
schools, and taught in that area a number of years and operated a
print shop at Medford for three years.
In 1918, he
purchased the former Abbotsford Clarion, which he published at
Dorchester. He retired in 1937 and in 1944 moved to Hudson,
Florida, where he made his home with his son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Makovic.
Besides Mrs. Makovic, the former June Hugoboom, he leaves a daughter, Miss Ardath Hugoboom, in Minneapolis, and a son, Wayne, in Huntington, Va., and one grand child. His wife, the former Emily Vanganess, whom he married Jan. 4, 1903, in Thorp, died May 5, 1934. One son also preceded him in death.
