Funeral
services for August Westphal, 91, who died Feb. 4, were held at
Milan Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Bethlehem
Lutheran church, with the Rev. Frederick Kemphert officiating.
Burial was made in the town of Holton cemetery.
Pallbearers
were Frank Baronsky, Albert and Otto Hackel, Ben Graffunder, Ed
McKee, and Reinhold Schaefer.
August
Westphal was born in Germany, July 25, 1866, and came to the town
of Holton when he was 17 years old. He worked in the woods and then
operated a farm until 19 years ago. He and Mrs. Westphal lived in
Milan for seven years and then went to the Marathon County Home for
the Aged at Wausau. Mrs. Westphal died there in 1952 and Mr.
Westphal’s death also occurred there following a lingering
illness.
Surviving him are two sons, Otto, of Philadelphia; Edward, Milan; a daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Frieda) Topor, Chicago. One sister, Mrs. Emma Notbohm, of Owen, and seven grand children also survive.
