Mr./Mrs. Seth (50th Anniv. - 14 June
1958)
Mr. and Mrs.
Seth Barker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on
Saturday, June 14. Relatives and friends gathered at the V.F.W.
hall at Medford at 2:00 o’clock for the reception and supper
was served at 4:30 for about 100 guests.
A large,
three tiered wedding cake decorated with yellow roses and a 50 year
emblem at the top, centered the honored couple’s table. The
Rev. F. H. Sprengler offered a short prayer for the
occasion.
Mrs. Barker
and her attendants wore gifted yellow carnation corsages and Mr.
Barker and his attendant had yellow gifted carnation
boutonnieres.
At the time
they were married on June 10, 1908, Mrs. Fred Peters, Fond du Lac,
and Walter Sprague, Stevens Point, were their attendants. Neither
one could be present for the celebration, due to ill health. Mrs.
Alvina Marlowe, Monroe, and Henry Malchow, of Medford, were the
substitute attendants. June 10 also marks the 81st
birthday anniversary of Mr. Barker.
Music was
furnished for dancing, in the afternoon and evening by Dennis
?’s orchestra, of Medford.
Mr. Barker
and the former Louise Malchow were married at Dorchester by the
Rev. A. Yanke. Mr. Barker was born June 19, 1877 to Mr. and Mrs.
Rufus Barker in the town of Holton. He received his education at
the Pickard school.
Mrs. Barker
was born Dec. 12, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Malchow in the town
of Mayville. After their marriage they resided on the home farm in
the town of Holton until about 1942. They left the farm and moved
to Park Falls, where he was employed by the city for about 12
years. They then sold their home there and moved back to
Abbotsford, and are now living in the upstairs apartment at the
Frank Bernitt home.
Both Mr. and
Mrs. Barker are members of Christ Lutheran church. The couple have
four children who were present for the celebration: Elmo Barker,
Spencer; Mrs. Cecil (Alice) Oehler, Abbotsford; Mrs. Gay (Marie)
Graffunder, Medford; and Arnold Barker, Mayville. One child died in
infancy. They also have 15 grand children who were present at the
celebration. The great grand children are: Darold Barker and
Jeffrey, Michael and Wesley Mueller. Other relatives and friends
