Seeman, Ida (18 Jul 1893 – 23 Apr 1979)

Mrs. William (Ida) Seeman, 85, formerly of 101 North Division Street, Loyal, died at about 5:30 a.m., Monday, April 23, 1979 at Marshfield Convalescent Home.

Services were conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.

Reverend Bruno Schlachtenhaufen officiated. Mrs. Verland Dux and Mrs. Erwin Dux sang, accompanied by Mrs. John Olson on the organ.

Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, was in charge of arrangements.

Ida Picha was born on July 18, 1893 in Berwyn, Illinois, and received her education in the Town of Carlton.

She was married on September 22, 1914 in Kewaunee, Wisconsin to William Seeman.

After their marriage they lived in Brussels, Door County, for four years. Later they moved to Algoma and lived there for four years. In 1928 they moved to Loyal and were engaged in the cheese business.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband William; two sons, Marvin of Unity and Roland (Bud) of Loyal; one daughter, Mrs. Eileen Luther of Wausau; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Nesladek of Brookfield, Illinois; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother and one sister.

Serving as pallbearers were Alvin Fravert, Wilbur Kehrberg, Frank Degenhardt, Art Olsen, Ruben Litka and Herb Hinkelman.

Shankland, Vern W. (2 Aug 1899 – 22 Apr 1979)

Vern W. Shankland, 79, of Paw Paw, Illinois, and formerly of the Greenwood area, died Sunday, April 22, 1979 at the home of his daughter.

He was born August 2, 1899 at Monroe, Iowa.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jackie Williams of Sidney, Illinois, and Mrs. Joe Dee-Calieneo, Paw Paw, Illinois; two sons, Ronald of Manteno, Illinois, and John of San Jose, California; three sisters, Geraldine Gray, Dorothy Lundeen of California, and Mrs. Beulah Curtiss of Newton, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwyneth in May 1977.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Crane Funeral Home, Batavia, Illinois.

The 1979 junior prom was held Friday evening at the Greenwood gym. Music was by the “Prime Choice” band.

Mike Yaeger and Barb Krultz ruled as king and queen, and the “crown bearers” were Amy Hinker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hinker, and Peter Kitzhaber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kitzhaber.

The court consisted of freshmen representatives Sonya Tennant escorted by Dave Mavis; sophomores Karen Metzke and Alan Lindner; juniors Janis Ystad and Randy Kitzhaber, and senior representatives were Patti Gadi, escorted by Harry Bentzler.

Harry Bentzler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Petkovsek, Greenwood, became the eighth member of the Loyal Boy Scout Troop to receive the coveted Eagle Scout Award.

The award was presented Monday night during ceremonies held at the Loyal Public School. Rick Stewart, scout executive from Chippewa Valley Council, Eau Claire, made the presentation.

Harry began his scouting program eight years ago and has earned his way up the ranks by his involvement in the scouting program, including attendance at the National Jamboree.

Results from the state FFA judging contest held two weeks ago in Madison were just released and show that the Granton FFA received a superior award in state judging beef, sheep and hogs. The team members were Dale Drinsinger, Greg Olson and Mike Martin. This places them in the top 10% of the teams in the state.

Greenwood honor students left for Washington, D.C. on a spring tour on Monday morning. When in D.C. they will visit the Smithsonian Institute and Arlington National Cemetery, along with a visit to New York City.

Mrs. Wilbur (Audrey Kehrberg of Loyal was one of five people to receive an award Monday evening at Wisconsin Rapids.

She was presented with the Daisy Award at the Woodland Girl Scout Council’s annual dinner meeting. During the 27 years of involvement in Girl Scouts, Audrey has served as a leader to Brownies, Junior and Cadettes, and as a member of the board of directors.
