Gadke, Elizabeth (1885 - 9 APR 1955)
Mrs. Elizabeth Gadke, 69, who lived in the Town of Eidsvold (Clark Co., Wis.) near here for 22 years before moving to Marshfield 15 years ago, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in that city as a result of burns suffered Saturday afternoon in a field near the farm home of her son Kenneth, where she lived.
Dr. R. H. Wink, deputy coroner at Marshfield, pronounced the death suicide due to burns.
According to the authorities there, it is reported that Mrs. Gadke went into a field a block from the farm barn, poured gasoline over her clothing and struck a match, setting her clothing on fire. She had last been seen by neighbors about 2:30 in the afternoon and was found shortly before 6 a short distance from the barn, by her son. She had apparently crawled from the spot where a gasoline can and matches were found to where she was found, and then taken to the hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield and at 2:30 at Eidsvold Cemetery.
