County News

Schilling Station 

Mrs. Thos. Vine and daughter, Alice, also Frank Vine of Rice Lake, Barron county, were visitors at G. Phillip's residence one day last week.

Deer semed to be plentiful here the past few days. We saw a team pass last Wednesday with three deer in the sleigh.

It has been reported that one of the Brandt boys has succeeded in killing two deer. Also, that one of the Christopherson boys and one of the Vines each got one, which is fair success.

Viola Dutcher of Greenwood, has received her contract to teach the next term of school in the Larson district. She is giving the best of satisfaction, all are pleased at her getting the school another term.

G. A Thompson of Greenwood, was a caller at the home of G. Phillips last Thursday.

Thursday is our day of thanksgiving and praise. Have we not cause to be thankful every day of our ungracious lives?

The woods have their attractions even in winter for those who have an eye for the beautiful.

Alice Vine is wondering what can be the matter with her left hand, which is considerably swollen. She has no use for it at present, so she says.

Albert Johnston was hauling wood to Greenwood lst Friday for George Harlow. We think that eight or ten cords was the result of the day's hauling.

Frank Vine went up above the Lloyd farm after his brother, Thomas and nephew, Ed. last Wednesday. On his return the sleighs looked as though they had been through the New Richmond tornado, as one-half was torn off and the rear part of the box was dragging on ground.

Martin Johnson and G. Phillips tried their luck last Saturday at hauling wood to the school house. They lost part of their load three times in a distance of one-half mile. Mr. Phillips says he will wait until times are better before he tries it again, or at least better sleighing.

Thos. Vine and family, accompanied by Frank Vine, were visitors at the home of Frank Nutting of Loyal, last Friday.

Two Indians were seen driving northward from Greenwood last Saturday noon, they being the first seen for some time past. It is thought that they were on their way to the Lac Flambeau reservation.

A man from Greenwood was seen in our vicinity last Saturday trying to find Albert Stabnaw's farm. We don't know the man but was informed that it was Ralph Ferneau.
