Nichols, Elsie C.  (08 DEC 1868-30 NOV 1946)

Elsie C. Nichols, wife of Walter Nichols, died very suddenly 0n Nov. 30 at Fond du Lac, at the age of 78 years. She was born on Dec. 8, 1868 at Antioch, O., the daughter of Milton and Sarah Stine.

She came to Wisconsin with her grandparents and settled in the town of Lindina near Mauston, at the age of 6 years, her mother having died when she only nine months old. Growing to young womanhood in the vicinity of Lindina and Mauston, she operated a dress-making shop in Mauston for 16 years as Miss Elsie Stine.

On June 3, 1908, she was united in marriage to Walter Nichols of Rio. After their marriage, they made their home on a farm in Lindina for 11 years. Later Mr. Nichols operated an undertaking establishment with A. L. De Flon for three years from 1919 to 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Nichols then moved to Loyal, operating furniture store and funeral home here for 23 years.

Having retired recently, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols had planned to go to Florida the first of the year for the winter, after which they would tour the United States for the remainder of the year. After the tour, they had planned to settle in their new home in Mauston.

Surviving Mrs. Nichols is only her husband, Walter. A grown daughter preceded her in death. There are no near relatives.

Funeral services were held on last week Wednesday at the Baptist church in Mauston, the Rev. C. R. Albin officiating. Interment was in the Mauston cemetery.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Theisen, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith, Mrs. Elmer Newman, Mrs. Blanche McGonigal, Mrs. Annie Davel and William Loppnow.

To Mr. Nichols, The Loyal Tribune extends its sympathy in his hour of bereavement.
