Women’s Civic Club (1955)
News by Mrs. F. E. Winn - The Women’s Civic
Club met Wednesday, January 19, at the Community hall with Mrs.
Myron Osgood presiding. The usual amount was voted for the
March of Dimes campaign. Reports of committees were
heard. Miss Glyde Graves, music instructor at the high
school, asked for help from the group in a home talent
entertainment to be given by the music department. The club
members voted to take part in the program. Mrs. E. L. Witte,
program chairman, who has as her house guest a displaced woman with
considerable musical talent, asked to have the privilege of
presenting this lady at the February meeting. The club voted
its approval.
The study topic "Agricultural Wisconsin" was
presented by Francis Steiner, vocational Ag teacher at the local
high school. Mr. Steiner told of several things wherein
Wisconsin ranks first, but confined most of his talk to our own
Clark County and what can be found on farms here at
home.
Mr. Steiner believes there is no better life to
be found than life in rural Wisconsin, but adds that farming, like
all other business, requires lots of energy, vision and business
ability.
Following his talk the hostesses, Mrs. Clark
Waterman, Misses Bess and Pearle Beeckler, served a dainty
lunch. The table was prettily decorated and place cards
bearing the names of Al Smith, Daniel Webster, Martha Washington,
James Olgethorpe and other great Americans were found at the
covers. It was for the ladies to find the name of the great
with initials like her own.
The next meeting will be in February.
