Smrecek, Theresa Katherine (Marriage - 21 May
1955)
Before an altar adorned with white bridal wreath,
Theresa Katherine Smrecek, daughter of Mrs. Eva Smrecek of Willard
and of John Smrecek of Fontana, California, became the bride of
Howard Vincent Fries, son of Mrs. Francis MacLennan, Minneapolis,
in a double ring ceremony performed May 21, in the Holy Family
Catholic Church at Willard. The couple repeated their vows before
the Rev. Fr. Augustine Svete O. F. M. A nuptial low
mass with Micheal Plautz and Gary Ruzic serving followed the 10
o’clock marriage rites.
The
bride, who was escorted to the altar by her brother John Smrecek,
Jr., wore a floor length gown of white, which featured net over
white satin, the net over skirt ending in a long train with a lace
panel down the front. The satin bodice waws fitted and styled
with a Peter Pan collar dotted with seed beads. The long
sleeves terminate in points at the wrists. The bride’s three
quarter length veil of sheer illusion was attached to a tiara crown
of orange blossoms.
The
floral arrangement she carried accented her entire ensemble.
Yellow roses and white carnations on a back ground of net and
shaped in the form of a crescent with yellow and white satin
streamers composed her bouquet, added a note of contrast. Her
only jewelry was a pair of pearl earrings a gift from the
groom.
Mrs. Dorothy Fraeger of Minneapolis was maid of
honor and Miss Donna Ruzic of Greenwood
bridesmaid.
Art
Fraeger of Minneapolis, a friend of the groom, was best man and
Gary MacLennan, brother of the groom, served as
groomsman.
Dinner was served to about 200 at the home of the
bride’s mother. The house was decorated with yellow and
white streamers and white wedding bells. The tables were
decorated with yellow and white candles and
carnations.
On
the bride’s table was placed a beautiful wedding cake shaped
like a church with a miniature bride and groom in the
doorway. They were dressed exactly like the bride and
groom.
The
festivities were climaxed with a dance in the evening at the West
Side Hall in Willard.
The
bride is a graduate of Greenwood High School, class of 1953, and is
now employed in Minneapolis. The groom a veteran of the U. S.
Navy is also employed in Minneapolis.
After a honeymoon in Northern Minnesota the young couple will make their home in Minneapolis.
