Harris E. Nielsen, 57, Granton, died on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Timothy Biebert officiated. Burial of cremains took place in the Greenwood City Cemetery, Greenwood.

Harries Eugene Nielsen was born on June 22, 1952, in Marshfield, to Henry and Beatrice (nee Schwarze) Nielsen. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1970. After high school, he entered the Wisconsin National Guard in May 1970 and served until his discharge in September 1976. He returned home and helped his father on the family farm. He married Kathleen Anderson on June 21, 1980, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kenosha. They purchased a farm in Neillsville, in 1981, and lived there until moving to their current farm, between Loyal and Granton in the town of York, in 1988. He farmed until the time of his death.

He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family, his dog and cat, deer hunting, fishing, four wheeling, playing cards and Parcheesi, the Packers and playing softball when he was younger.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathleen, Granton; his son, Joshua, Granton; his mother, Beatrice Nielsen, Greenwood; his siblings, Harlan Nielsen, Greenwood, Berdell Nielsen (husband, Paul Boutwell), Mazomanie, Roy Nielsen, Hillpoint, Larry Nielsen, Greenwood, David (Sheryl) Nielsen, Greenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was his father, Henry, on July 31, 2005.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
