Hilber, Alex A. (18 July 1947 - 3 Dec. 2009) 
 

MAYVILLE -- Alex A. Hilber, 62, of 920 Meadow Lane, Mayville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. 
 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack officiating. 
 

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Mayville High School Gymnasium. To conclude Sunday evening's visitation, a final victory drive will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Ray Dunn Field in Mayville. Visitation will also be held at the church Monday, Dec. 7 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. 
 

Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery in Mayville. 
 

Alex was born July 18, 1947, in Marshfield, the son of Alex S. and Lucille (Adams) Hilber. He was married to Connie Kieffer on Sept. 21, 1968, in Marshfield. He was a graduate of Colby High School and of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. 
 

Alex began his teaching career at Columbus High School in Marshfield. Later, he taught at Cassville High School, and finally, taught at Mayville High School until his retirement in 2006. 
 

Alex was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He was also a member of the Mayville Lion's Club. 
 

Alex was head coach of the Cassville football program from 1977 until 1985. Afterward, he was head coach of the Mayville football program from 1985 until 2001. Alex was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association-Hall of Fame in 2002. He also was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association-Hall of Fame on June 28, 2006. 
 

Alex is survived by his wife, Connie, of Mayville; his children, Rob (Dawn) Hilber of Sun Prairie, Jenny Neis of Saukville and Scott (Brook) Hilber of Nekoosa; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Carol Kieffer of Appleton; his sisters and brothers, Barb (Pete) Davel of Menomonee Falls, Tom (Jenny) Hilber of Marshfield, Gerrie (Don) Price of Alaska, Duane (Cindi) Hilber of Appleton, Linda (Tom) Degenhardt of Loyal, Dianne (Doug) Hempel of Germantown, Lori (Tony) Reid of Medford, Tammy (Dave) Null of El Paso, Texas, and Doug (Penny) Hilber of LaValle; his grandchildren, Bryce, Grace, Abby, Ryan, Ruben, Hunter Ann and Isabelle. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, Ted. 
 

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be established in Alex's memory.
