Alta’s now ‘Smartwear’
(1955)
It’s "Smartwear" - The name chosen by Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Volkmann for the ladies’ ready-to-wear store
formerly known as "Alta’s" has been selected. It is:
Volkmann Smartwear.
The
winner of the contest conducted to name the store was Mrs. Caroline
Gustman of 1108 Hewett Street, Neillsville. She will receive
$20 in merchandise of her choosing.
Runners-up in the competition were: Mrs. Hazel
Hubing and Mrs. Eva Quinlan, both of Neillsville, and Mrs. Robert
Richmond, of Neillsville, route 3. Each will be given $2 in
merchandise.
The
selection was a difficult one for Mr. and Mrs. Volkmann. To select
a single name out of 114 entries was a little more of a task than
they had presumed it would be; and they mulled the names suggested
over and over before making the final decision.
The only reason that the Volkmann name appears at all is that from the number of entries that customers wanted the name used in identification.
