Root, Elwin Duane (13 July 1885 - 18 September
1955)
Elwin Duane Root died at his home in Merrill
September 18. He had been ill for the past two
years.
Mr.
Root was born July 13, 1885, in Granton to George Albert and Emma
(Gibson) Root. He moved to Tripoli in 1934 and lived there 20
years.
Mr.
Root was married to Ida Alton of Neillsville April 23, 1908.
He was a member of the Congregational Church of Tripoli for 20
years and was a member of it’s board of trustees until he
left Tripoli.
Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Mrs.
Gerald (Zola) Lynch, Rhinelander, Mrs. Floyd (Frances) Kelley,
Hurley, and Mrs. Leonard (Jean) Allorie, Merrill; two brothers,
Louis Root, Colfax, and Ross Root, Ladysmith; one sister, Mrs.
Allie Baker, Dubuque, Ia.; and seven
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Grace
Methodist Church, Merrill. Burial was in Merrill Memorial
Park.

another column same issue of the Clark County Press, a
correspondent listed the following folks from the Granton and
Christie area that attended the funeral of Mr. Root at
Merrill—
Those from here who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hales, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. George Hales, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Voight, Mr. and Mrs. Harmie Huntley, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Vandeberg, Mrs. William Eibergen, Mrs. Paul Frischman and Mrs. Fern Vandeberg; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Timerson and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Timerson of Christie were also among the group who attended.
