Mohr, Alaina (1955)

Fruits of Discipline:  Wishing to speak with the teacher of our grade school, I was waiting outdoors, while the upper grades were still in session. The lower grade children, being dismissed earlier, were already started walking on their way home.

I noticed "Alaina," 7 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mohr, having walked half a mile towards her home in not too comfortable weather, it being cold and windy, came back to the school.

I was curious, and asked her if she had forgotten something? "Yes," she said, "I almost forgot to do my duty, and my Mama said I must always do my duty, rain or shine or what."

Her duty was to inspect the school grounds and girls’ toilet every evening after school. She faithfully walked over the grounds in two large circles and checked on the toilet.

Mother’s like hers, who instill this kind of guidance, are not apt to have delinquent daughters.

(Alaina lived about 1 ½ miles from Silver Crest School in the Town of Pine Valley.)
