Piper, Roy E. (15 SEP 1890 - 26 MAY 1955)

 

Roy E. Piper, 64, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield on Thursday, May 26, 1955, of a heart attack following a major operation.  His death came at the termination of the Thorp Public School year and the seventeenth in which he served as school custodian.  His passing saddened hearts of relatives and many friends and especially students and teachers who enjoyed his quiet friendship.

 

Roy E. Piper was born in Plainfield, Wis. on Sept. 15, 1890.  He came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) as a young man and worked at his trade of barber for many years.  He was united in marriage to Marguerite Burke on Jan. 29, 1914.

 

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Burke G. Piper, 63 Rockledge Rd., Bronxville, N.Y., two daughters, Eileen, Mrs. Anton Papierniak, 4826 S. 8th Road, Arlington, Va., and Miss Patricia Piper, Thorp; one brother, Robert Piper, 2428 S. 78th St., Milwaukee; three sisters, Ida, Mrs. Otto Emanuel, Augusta, Wis., Effie, Mrs. Harold Jeffers, Milwaukee, and Miss Inez Piper, Appleton, Wis.  His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Piper, one brother, Floyd, and a sister, Sylvia, Mrs. Alfred Von Gonton, preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Gomer Finch of Chippewa Falls at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, May 29, 1955.  During the service two hymns, "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle," were sung by Mrs. E. G. Stauss, accompanied by Mrs. Malin Malinowski.

 

Interment took place in the East Thorp Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Jack Emanuel, William Nolechek, Jack Burke, George Burke, Frank McGivern and Jerry Geise.

Burke, Boyd, Mrs. Walter Woodward, Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Murphy, Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Kathleen palmer, Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. O. Nye, Chippewa Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Welch, Gilman, Wis.
