Etta, Elmer James (23 April 1888 - 5
January 1956)
Elmer James Etta, 67 years, son of he
late J. Henry and Anna (Stange) Etta of Loyal, died at the King
Hospital Thursday, January 5, at 11:30 a.m., where he had been a
patient the past seven months. He had suffered a stroke in
1949.
Mr. Etta was born April 23, 1888, at
Loyal. He was married August 27, 1920, at St. Paul, Minn., to
Esther M. Legault.
Elmer Etta received his education in
Loyal and was a graduate of the Wausau Business College. He
was in partnership with his father and his brother Oscar in the
flour and feed business at Loyal. He left Loyal in 1932 and
operated his own business at Washburn, Wis., until his illness in
1949. He was active in band work and was musician
2nd Class in World War I, Headquarters Co.,
32nd Division. He was elected city treasurer of
Loyal in 1917 and was a former commander of the American Legion of
Loyal.
Besides his wife, Esther Etta of King, he
is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. George (Valerie) Humke, and a
son, Robert Etta both of Sterling, Ill.; one brother and four
sisters: Mrs. Harold (Esther) Stabnow of Greenwood; Oscar Etta of
Eau Claire; Mrs. Fred (Mable) Tolleth of Wisconsin Dells; Mrs.
Perry (Maude) Volk of Loyal; and Mrs. Carl (Florence) Etta of Eau
Claire.
Funeral services were held Monday,
January 9, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Greenwood. The Rev. Augustine Svete F. O. M. officiated.
Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary services
were held at the Stabnow Funeral Home Sunday evening at 8
p.m.
Graveside services were conducted by the Wallis-Hinker Legion Post No. 238 of Greenwood.
