Krumholz, Leona B. (7 September 1916 -
December 31, 2009)
Leona B. Krumholz, 93, of Humbird, passed
away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Black River Memorial Hospital,
Black River Falls, under the care of Black River Hospice.
Leona was born Sept. 7, 1926, to Leo and
Martha (Hovland) Schlichter. She graduated from Fairchild
Public School and Eau Claire Teachers College. She taught school in
Eau Claire, Clark and Jackson counties. Locally, she taught
first and second grades in Humbird and Fairchild.
Leona married Hibbard Krumholz July 26,
1942, in Black River Falls. She was a clerk on the local school
board, Humbird Library and the Town of Mentor, being the first
woman to serve in that position. As a member of Saint
John’s United Church of Christ, she served as treasurer for
25 years. She co-wrote the centennial history for the church in
2006. She was a member of the Fairview Homemakers for over 50 years
and the Women’s Fellowship of U. C. C., holding offices in
each organization. She and a friend, Millie Trachsel, started
the library in Humbird.
Leona loved to travel and, with friends,
went to Germany, Denmark, Sweden and almost every state in the
United States, including Alaska.
She enjoyed sewing, embroidery,
crocheting and quilting. She was a member of the Humbird
quilting group that got together every week at her church. The
group hand stitched every stitch on quilts they made for
individuals who hired them. The profits the group made were
donated to the church.
Leona also had a passion for playing
games such as Scrabble, Aggravation, cards and word
puzzles.
Leona was preceded in death by her
husband; parents; brothers, Harold, Leo and Curtis; sisters,
Angeline (Arthur) Peterson, Gladys (George) Thornberg and Doris
(Loren) Bilderback.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons,
Robert (Christine) Krumholz and Brian Krumholz, both of Humbird;
one daughter, Debra (Bernard) Jahn of rural Alma Center; five
grandsons, Jason Krumholz of Washington D.C., Andrew (April)
Krumholz of Burnett, Adam (special friend Jenny) Krumholz of Alma
Center, Nathan (Sara) Jahn of Eau Claire and Ian Jahn of Alma
Center; one granddaughter, Kortney Jahn of Alma Center; two
great-grandsons, Alexander and Ashton Krumholz of Burnett; and many
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Leona B. Krumholz
were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at St. John’s
United Church of Christ, Humbird, with Reverend Patricia Trotter
officiating. Burial took place in Mentor Cemetery, rural
Humbird. Visitation took place at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral
Home, Hixton, on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also one hour
prior to services at the church.
Casketbearers were Jason, Andrew and Adam Krumholz and Nathan, Ian and Kortney Jahn. Honorary bearers were Jim Eisberner, Greg Eisberner, Joe Kniseley, Al Putman, Scott Gearing and Robin Trachsel.
