Lee, Mary Charlotte (1 February 1909 - 25
January 1956)
Mrs. Mary Lee, age 46, of 117 Oak Street,
Neillsville, died Wednesday afternoon at her home. She had
not been feeling well at noon but informed her family she would be
all right alone and urged them not to be alarmed at her
condition. Her son, Skipper discovered her body on the
bathroom floor when he returned from school.
Funeral services were conducted Satruday
afternoon at the Congregational Church, the Rev. Frank Harcey,
pastor of the church, officiating. The officers of Carmi
Chapter No. 60 also conducted Eastern Star services.
The body reposed at the Bergemann Funeral
Home from Thursday evening to Saturday noon, when it was taken to
the church for services.
Mary Charlotte Gile, daughter of Ray and
Bessie (Dawson) Gile, was born February 1, 1909, at Rockford, Ill.
When she was two years old her family moved to Merrillan, where she
attended school and was later a graduate of the Eau Claire State
Teachers College. She taught in the Granton, Merrillan and
Melrose schools. On November 7, 1930, she was married to Dr.
Ell Lee at Harvard, Ill. They have made Neillsville their
home since.
Mrs. Lee was a member of Carmi Chapter
No. 60 O. E. S. and a member of the Neillsville Country Club.
Under her very able guidance many youths of the Neillsville area
were given the privilege of learning how to bowl correctly and in
1951 one of her teams won the national championship in the Junior
Bowling league of the United States. During the summer of
last year she taught many boys and girls how to play
golf.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ell
Lee, one son, Ell (Skipper); her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gile of
Merrillan; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Jean) Henning of Altoona; three
brothers, Rulef Gile, Green Bay, Gibson Gile, Merrillan, and
William Gile, Wisconsin Rapids.
Attending the services in a group were
the Junior Bowling League, Jobs Daughters, Eastern Star, and the
high school basketball team.
Burial took place at Merrillan.
The Merrillan Chapter No. 160 O. E. S.
also attended services in a body.
Pallbearers were A. C. Covell, Bruce
Beilfuss, Albert Kuehling, Arthur Meyers, Lowell Schoengarth and
Lester Steinhilber.
In charge of flowers were members of
Carmi Chapter No. 60 O. E. S. They were Mrs. Albert Holt,
Mrs. Walter Brown, Mrs. Fred Palmer, Mrs. Sam Ray and Mrs. Adolph
Unger.
Out of town relatives attending services were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gile, Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Gile of Merrillan, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henning, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Rulef Gile, Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. William Gile, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Lee, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Wally Olson, Waupun; Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Johnson, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dubes, Truman Davis, Eldred Davis, all of Granton and Mrs. Arthur Epding and daughter, Diane, Wausau.
