Leach, Ira S. (27 April 1889 - 7 February
1956)
Funeral services for Ira S. Leach, 66,
long-time resident of Clark County, will be held from the Methodist
Church in Neillsville Friday afternoon. Burial will be made in the
Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Leach died Tuesday afternoon in
Neillsville, following a short illness. The body was taken to
the Georgas Funeral Home, where it will be in state until before
the services. Rev. Virgil Holmes will conduct the
service.
Active in county politics, Mr. Leach has
served for several years on the county board of supervisors from
Neillsville’s first ward. He was an active member of
the park commission, and gave much time and study to the recent
development of the county’s park system. He also was
active and interested in Republican work, and was a member of the
Clark County Republican Club.
For many years Mr. Leach operated a meat
market in Greenwood, first with his father, then continuing the
business after his father’s death. He retired to a
farm, and in 1949 moved to Neillsville, where he has been a car
salesman.
He was born April 27, 1889, at Eleva, to
Thomas and Edith (Hanny) Leach, and moved to Greenwood when a
boy. Mr. Leach was married to Etna Paulley June 21,
1910, in Neillsville.
Surviving besides his wife are five
children: Almond Leach of Victor, Mont.; Mrs. Robert (Juaneita)
Roder of Owen; Mrs. Rudy (Bethel) Volk of Willard; Mrs. Erich
(Covalie) Hoffman of Eden; and Mrs. Fred (Lucy) Gosse of
Milwaukee. Also surviving is a brother, Erwin of Greenwood,
and 17 grandchildren.
A son, John was killed in Italy during World War II.
