Polio Clinics (1956)
County Medical Society Opens Door for
Program with Request to State Board:
Public polio clinics will be held in
Clark County for children of the sixth and seventh grades as a
result of action taken Tuesday night by the Clark County Medical
Society.
In their action, the society voted to
request from the state board of health all vaccine available for
use in these public clinics, it was announced by Dr. Thomas N.
Thompson, Jr., society secretary.
Limited supplies of the Salk vaccine,
however, will necessitate restricting its use to children of the
two grades. The reason the sixth and seventh grades have been
selected, Dr. Thompson explained, is that experience has indicated
it more effective in these age groups; and the effort will be to
make the limited supply as effective as possible.
A fee of 25 cents will be charged at the
public clinics to pay administrative costs.
Arrangements for the clinics are to be made by Mrs. Lois Guest, Clark County Nurse, who set up similar clinics for the county a year ago.
