Spaete, Carl Gustave (20 January 1892 - 19 April 1956) 
 

Carl Spaete, 64, of the Town of Washburn, died Thursday afternoon at his farm home following a stroke.  He had been in ill health for several years. 
 

Carl Gustave Spaete, son of the late Gustave and Louise Spaete, was born January 20, 1892, in Germany.   When he was a year and one-half old his family came to this country and settled in Milwaukee.  After several years the Spaete family moved to the Town of Washburn, where he resided since.  He received his education in the Carlyle School and served as supervisor of the Town of Washburn for several years. 
 

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Granton. 
 

On March 27, 1922, he was married to Florence Strebing of Neillsville, who survives. 
 

Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Dorothy) Williams of Chicago, and Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Meihack of Fond du Lac; two sons, Robert Spaete of Maquoketa, Ia., and Lawrence Spaete, at home.  Eight grandchildren also survive, as well as a sister, Mrs. Joe Horehled of R. 1 Neillsville. 
 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Neillsville.  The Rev. Arthur Oswald, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church of Granton, officiated.  Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery.  The body reposed at the Bergemann Funeral Home beginning at noon Saturday until Monday noon, when it was taken to the church for services. 
 

Pallbearers were Harry Carstensen, Donald Champoux, William Matuszak, Herbert Mildebrath, Helmuth Schultz and Walter Wucki. 
 

Wilfred Galstad sang the "Lord’s Prayer," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Clarence Pannier. 
 

Out of town relatives attending the rites were: Robert Spaete, Maquoketa, Ia.; Mrs. Dorothy Williams and daughter, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meihack and family, Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Cattanach and children, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Spaete, Rib Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Spaete, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Strebing and family, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wucki, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kozlowski, Pray; Frank Smagosez (Smagacz), Pittsville; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz, and Mrs. Richard Hillert of Granton.
