Funeral services were conduced Tuesday at
2 p.m. from the Christie Methodist Church for Mrs. Carrie Holt, 96,
who died Saturday at the home of her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Holt of Greenwood. R1.
The body, in charge of the Georgas
Funeral Home, was taken to the church Tuesday noon, where it
reposed for an hour prior to services. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey
officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City
Cemetery.
Mrs. Holt was born October 10, 1859, at
Stone Bank, to William and Mary (Cross) Foster. She received
her rural education at Stone Bank and, following her marriage to
Albert J. Holt on October 16, 1878, at Oconomowoc, they farmed in
Pierce County before coming to Clark County in 1883. They
settled on a farm in the Town of Weston, which had been her home
since.
Since the death of her husband in 1901,
Mrs. Holt has made her home with her children. The past several
years she has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Holt.
Mrs. Holt, who had both of her hips
broken in two separate falls, was active up to last fall, and since
that time was confined to her bed. On her 96th
birthday she received birthday greetings from President and Mrs.
Eisenhower.
She is survived by the following
children: Mrs. Jennie Sischo, and Mrs. Marion Begley of
Neillsville; Clarence Holt, Mrs. William (Vera) Joyce, Greenwood;
and Earl Holt of Neillsville; a brother, David Foster of Milwaukee;
20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were all grandsons of the
deceased: Donald Holt, Ernest Begley, Merton Holt, James Holt, Lyle
Sischo and Wilbur Joyce. Flower ladies, granddaughters, were:
Mrs. Robert Wilsman, Audrey, Joyce and Nancy Holt.
Mrs. George Schaefer and Mrs. Fred
Buchholz, accompanied by Miss Martha Buchholz, sang two
selections.
Out of town relatives attending the rites were: Ira Holt, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Verlyn Holt, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Joyce, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. E. A. Peterson, Muskegon, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holt, Elmwood, Wis.; Earle D. Fulmer, George and Carrie Fulmer, Athens; Raymond McKimm, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Holt, Marshfield; George and Laura Fulmer, Alfred and Hattie Fulmer, Oconomowoc; Harold Holt, Sheboygan; Robert Holt, Platteville; Mr. and Mrs. William Seidelman, and Mrs. Mike Seidelman, Chippewa Falls.
