Cook, Elaine (16 AUG 1955)

Miss Elaine Cook chose a bridal gown of French Princess lace and tulle over slipper satin for her wedding to Richard Szymanski on Aug. 16, 1955.  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cook, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Szymanski, all of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).  The groom is now serving in the United States Army at Fort Knox, Ky.

St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp was the setting for the nuptial Mass, which was celebrated by Father Gabriel Meyer at 10 a.m.  Bouquets of gladioli decorated the church.

Mr. Cook escorted his daughter to the altar.  Scallops of lace edged the square neckline of the bridal gown which had an inset of shirred tulle.  The scallop motif was repeated in the short sleeves and again edging the apron effect which was gathered over the full tulle skirt.  She wore matching lace elbow length gauntlets and veil.  The bride carried a white prayer book to which yellow and white roses and ivy were attached.  Her pearl choker and earrings were gifts of the groom.

Mrs. Steve Lato, Thorp, sister of the groom, was matron of honor, and Misses Jean Cook and Marge Cook, sisters of the bride, served as bridal aides.  The attendants wore floor length gowns of maize lace and net, with a cap sleeved bolero worn over the strapless bodice.  Six circular tiers of net fashioned the skirts.  Matching picture hats completed their costumes.  Their pearl earrings and bracelets were gifts of the bride.

David Dobrzynski, Thorp, attended the groom as best man.  Ushers were Harold Kozlowski of Eau Claire, Harvey boie and Steve Lato of Thorp.

A wedding breakfast was served at 11:30 a.m. at the Quonset Ballroom with covers for sixty guests.  The reception for 150 guests also took place in the ballroom.

A charcoal rayon dress with white accessories was the choice of costume selected by the bride for traveling.  After a honeymoon, the young Mr. and Mrs. Szymanski will reside at Vine Grove, Kentucky.

The bride, a graduate of Thorp High School, has been employed by the Thorp Finance Company for the past three years.  The groom is also a graduate of the Thorp High School.

Prenuptial events were given by Mrs. Steve Lato and Mrs. Leonard Szymanski; Mrs. Harvey Boie and Mrs. Dean Hubbard.
