Vetterkind, Shirley F. (17 SEP 1955)
Miss Shirley Fay Vetterkind, Chicago, and Joseph M. Lang, also of Chicago, exchanged their marriage vows on Saturday, Sept. 17th, 1955, at St. Hedwig’s Church. Father Constance Chillechi performed the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vetterkind and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lang, all of Route 1, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). St. Hedwig’s choir sang, with Al Ciolkosz, Thorp, as organist. Bouquets of mixed asters decorated the altar.
The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her father, chose a floor length white imported lace and nylon over white satin, fashioned with fitted bodice, round neckline re-embroidered in pearls and sequins with tiers around the full skirt. It had long tapering sleeves. Her fingertip veil was fastened to a crown of seed pearls and sequins. She wore rhinestone blue imported nylon over taffeta, necklace and earrings, a gift of the groom, and carried a bouquet of pink roses.
The bride chose Mrs. Sophie Gutschaw, Chicago, the groom’s sister, as her matron of honor. Miss Alice Pawlawicz, Chicago, friend of the bride, and Miss Sandra Mae Vetterkind, Thorp, sister of the bride, served as bridal aides. Mrs. Gutschaw’s strapless gown was of blue imported nylon over taffeta. The bridesmaids wore identical gowns, only in shrimp color, and all wore matching headpieces. Yellow carnations composed their bouquets. Their pearl necklace and earring sets were gifts of the bride.
Sylvester Konieczny, Chicago, cousin of the groom, attended the groom as best man, with Bill Beyer, Argyle, Mich., nephew of the groom, as groomsman. The groom and groomsmen were attired in light blue tuxedoes with dark trousers and wore white carnation boutonnieres.
Sheila Kay Vetterkind, Thorp, sister of the bride, wearing a frock identical to the bride’s gown, acted as flower girl. She carried a basket of pompoms.
Tommy Tylka, Thorp, dress identical to the groom and groomsmen, was ring bearer.
The bride’s mother attended the wedding in a turquoise lace dress with green accessories. The groom’s mother wore a navy blue dress with orchid accessories. They had lovely shoulder corsages of yellow roses.
A wedding breakfast was served at 12 o’clock at Quonset Hall for 75 families, followed by a 6 o’clock reception with 125 families. Music was furnished in the afternoon and evening by Laniewski Brothers of Cadott.
Both bride and groom attended the Thorp High School.
After a wedding trip to Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Lang will make their home at 6461 N. Newark Ave., Chicago, where both are employed at Teletype Corp. For traveling the bride selected a navy blue knit suit.
Out of town guests attended the wedding from Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, Island Lake, New Auburn, Ashland, Loyal, Colby, Stanley, Gilman, Withee, and Michigan.
