Swanson, Rev. Charles J. (11 January 1896
–2 September 1956)
The Rev. Charles J. Swanson, 60, pastor
of Loyal and York Center Methodist churches, died at 7:25 p.m.
Sunday September 2, 1956, in St. Joseph’s Hospital,
Marshfield, where he was taken about an hour before, having
suffered a heart attack.
He was born in Milwaukee, January 11,
1896, and received his early education in public schools
there. Later he was graduated from the Methodist Theological
seminary at Evanston, Ill.
He served the Moose Lake Methodist Church
in Minnesota for 10 years. Among other churches he served were
Newberry, Carney, Iron Mountain, and Hermansville, in Michigan, and
Spirit, South Wayne, and Mauston in Wisconsin. He came to
Loyal from Mauston in June, 1955.
He was married to Elsie Waldo at Carney,
Mich. June 16, 1926. He is survived by his wife; one
daughter, Mrs. Allen (Charlene) Carlsen, Champaign, Ill.; one son,
Jon, at home; two brothers, Oscar A. and Ralph J. of Milwaukee; and
one grandchild. A daughter and a sister preceded him in
death.
He was a member of the Masonic
organization in Iron Mountain, Mich., and of the Loyal Rotary
Club.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Raymond Fleming, La Crosse, district superintendent of Central District, was in charge, assisted by other Methodist pastors. James Colby was soloist and Mrs. Byron Zepplin organist. Burial was in Milwaukee.
