Humke, Anna (6 August 1859 - 16 September 1956)

Mrs. Henry Humke, 97, died Sunday noon after a few hours illness at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Humke.  The funeral will be held Thursday, September 20, at 2 p.m. at the West Side Church, of which her husband was a charter member.  Burial will be made in the West Side Cemetery.

Mrs. Anna Humke was born August 6, 1859, at Kohlsville, Washington County.  She was married to Henry Humke November 18, 1879.  Shortly after their marriage they left Kewaskum and came to Clark County, where Mrs. Humke lived for 77 years on the present farm four miles northwest of Greenwood.  She was a member of the West Side Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid Society. The Humkes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1929.  Each year Mrs. Humke’s birthday was the occasion of a family reunion.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons, Mrs. Meda Decker, Mrs. Ella Schwarze, Mrs. William (Alma) Steiger, Theodore, Arthur, and George Humke, all of Greenwood, and Mrs. Paul (Helena) Rossman of Spokane, Wash.; also 27 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, who died in 1936, she was preceded in death by one son, Edward, who was killed by lightning in 1916.
