Hoaglund, Geraldine J. (7 December 1933 -
16 January 2010) With Flag
Geraldine J. Hoaglund, 76, of Earlville,
IL, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Kishwaukee Community
Hospital. After 10 days in intensive care unit, she became
affectionately known as "beautiful blue eyes" by her
caregivers.
She was born Dec. 7, 1933, in Granton,
the daughter of Gilbert and Elsie (Lautenbach) Larson.
Geraldine (Gerry) was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. She was
very involved in her family genealogy, researching records to be
passed on from generation to generation. She loved to travel,
especially to vacation in Wisconsin with her family. It was a
fun-filled trip the family always looked forward to. An avid
book reader, Gerry’s bookshelf was full of novels she had
passionately read. She also enjoyed collecting post cards and
trading them with countless pen pals through-out the
country.
Gerry is survived by her six children,
Debra (Gerald) Kell of Sandwich, IL, Denise Wetzstein of Radcliff,
KY, David Hoaglund of Sandwich, IL, Diana (Donald) Pagakis of
Earlville, IL, Dana (Jim) Patrick of Herndon, VA, and Derek
(Denise) Hoaglund of Rockton, IL; nine grandsons, Nicholas,
Nathaniel and Curtis Wetzstein, Shane Hoaglund, Ryan Kell, Justin
and Joshua Steinhour and Matthew and Jacob Hoaglund; three
step-grandsons, Cory and Cody Pagakis and James Patrick; five
great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Curtis Hoaglund of
Sandwich.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
one daughter in infancy, Teresa Ann; one sister, Virginia Paun; and
one brother, Robert Larson, Sr.
Gerry fondly remembered her family roots where she was born and raised, so a memorial service will be held at a later date in Granton. A memorial has been established for Geraldine Hoaglund for the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation in care of the Butula Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave. Sycamore, Il 60178.
