Spry, Chester R. (29 June 1883 - 21
December 1956)
Chester R. Spry, 73, of 505 E.
2nd Street, Neillsville, died Friday at the Memorial
Hospital where he had been taken earlier in the day.
Funeral services were conducted Monday
afternoon from the Methodist Church. The Rev. Virgil Holmes
officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City
Cemetery.
The body reposed at the Georgas Funeral
home from noon on Saturday until noon on Monday, when it was taken
to the church for services.
Mr. Spry was born June 29, 1883, at Blum
city in Richland County. He received his education in the
schools of that county and as a boy worked on the home farm.
Following his marriage to the former Edith Watt on June 29, 1910,
at Richland Center, he continued to farm in that community for
eight years.
They came to Clark County in 1918 and
settled on a farm in the Town of Grant. After a few years the
Spry family rented the farm and returned to Richland Center, where
they remained for five years before returning to their farm in the
Town of Grant. After selling the farm in 1944 they moved to
Neillsville, where he was employed by the American Stores Dairy
Co.
Surviving are his wife, and two
daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Dorthy) Schnabel, and Mrs. Raymond (Doris)
Foemmel, both of Granton; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Spry was a member of the Methodist
Church and for several terms held the job of school clerk at the
Wild Rose School.
Pallbearers were: Jess Wilding, Albert
Smith, Lloyd L., Robert, Dale R. and Phelps B. Spry. Hymns
were sung by Mrs. Virgil Holmes, Miss Carol Peterson and H. R.
Briggs, accompanied by Miss Sharry Briggs.
Folks from out of town attending were: The Rev. and Mrs. M. B. Ferguson, Viroqua; Dale Spry, Lansing, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Neff, Verona; Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Babb, Richland Center; Mr. and Mrs. Phelps Spry and family, chili; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spry and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Schnabel and children, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Garbisch, Mary Ellen Garbisch, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Scharf, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mortimer, Mr. and Mrs. Theamore Vine, Mr. and Mrs. Irving vine, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Foemmel and family, all of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Spry, Marshfield.
